Happy New Year

31 12 2008

My Garmin seems to be working again – i deleted all the data that was on it and then logged a new run and it worked!

I think the problem was that when it was uploading to the computer earlier in the week i interupted it by walking away from the computer – but all seems to be fine now and i kept my buckeye outdoors and fetch pages up to date.

Did 8 miles on Sunday – i do enjoy the longer runs, it just feels like you can settle in to a comfortable pace and enjoy it – I will have to start taking my camera out and have a few shots of my usual routes.  Did a 3 mile short run today – and i have a fartlek scheduled for tomorrow on New Years Day.

Adam and Joe accompanied me on today’s  run – not sure if people outside the uk and Ireland would appreciate Adam and Joe – there is a very British theme to it. Adam Buxton also does a lot of stuff on you tube, here’s a good example below.

Technical Difficulties

27 12 2008

For some reason my Garmin Forerunner 50 isn’t uploading to the computer at the moment so im going to have to fiddle about with it later and maybe reinstall the software on my computer.

But on the plus side I have managed to get all my runs in so far this week.

On Christmas eve I managed to combine a 3 mile run with a quick trip round the shops in Belfast for some last minute presents. On Christmas Day I did a 40 minitue run including 30 minutes of fartlek (before xmas dinner) and on boxing day I did another 3 miler in the narrow window between my wife waking up and going back on night shift.

Im just hoping there will be enough time for me to do my 8 miler tomorrow – I might have to push it forward to Monday but I don’t think thats such a big deal.

Supergrass have accompanied me on some of my runs this week:

Busy week – more missed runs!

22 12 2008

It was a busy week last week – I managed to get my first short run in on Wednesday, then I went to see John Shuttleworth on Wednesday night.

Thursday was meant to be a cross training session but I gave blood in the morning and you aren’t meant to do anything physical after that – plus i’m still cycling 22 miles most days. Thursday night was the Pigeon and Plum cabaret which I sometimes perform at but this time I was just taking pictures.

Friday was meant to be another short run but I was busy Friday lunch time and after cycling home in torrential weather conditions on Friday night I couldn’t face going out again.

But I did get my Sunday long run in – I thought I was scheduled for an 8 mile run but on checking realized it was a 5 miler but I did over 6 any way.

Despite being Christmas, I hope to get all my runs in this week – especially as I’ve been over eating a bit.

Goldfrapp, Collins and Herring

14 12 2008

Didn’t get a chance to run on Friday lunch time as i was getting new tyres fitted to the car for its MOT. So i ended up having to run on Friday night in the pouring rain. But once you get out its not too bad – you soon warm up and if you’ve got something good on the i-pod the time goes by very quickly. Goldfrapp was my choice for Friday, maybe a bit mellow for fast running and i found myself singing along at points so i cant have been too out of breath.

Today i was due to do a 7 mile run but miss-remembered a route  i’d planned on g-map pedometer and only did just under 6.  So i’ve planned next weeks 8 miler already. Todays run was accompanied by the Collins and Herring podcast – witty banter from 2 middle aged men, probably mainly listened to by middle aged men. I do enjoy this type of podcast though as you do get something a bit different from the usual output of what is commissioned by  the  “paid” media or should i say “traditional” media.  There is always  this  undercurrent  with popular podcasts of whether they should be charging for their content.  I don’t mind if they do, as long as the content is worth it. Several times when a podcast that  i enjoy listening has been a bit short of cash for server fees etc. i have thrown them a few pound, they always seem embarrassed to ask – it must be very difficult to make a full time living as a podcaster. Any way heres a taster

Fartlek

Fartlek

Another good session, but I do have this underlying sensation that my right leg is a bit more achey than my left leg. I’ll maybe see a physio some time after xmas.

Confessions

Short Run

I’ve been very good at sticking to my plan so far but i’ve had my first lapse this week.

I was looking after the kids all day on Sunday when I was due to be doing a 6 mile run and then out for the circus Christmas do on sunday night, which left me in no fit state to do anything for the next couple of days.

Back on track today though with a short run, 7 miles to look forward to this Sunday which i’m determined to complete, no matter what time I do it.

Catching up

5 12 2008

Busy week this week so I’m only just catching up on the blog now. Went to see Duke Special supported by Tim Minchin on Tuesday and Billy Bragg on Wednesday. Here are some videos if you are unfamiliar with their stuff.

Did a short run at lunchtime on wednesday, a Fartlek session on Thursday night and a short run tonight. Unfortunately my watch needed re-setting so tonights run was recorded as 5th November instead of 5th December.

The Fartlek sessions can be tough going but I can see how they probably do improve your stamina over time.
